All Shipper only Consumer spending, according to respondents, is simultaneously the biggest influence of and risk to load volumes. Sinking consumer spending can have domino effects across the supply chain, and those hauling and shipping discretionary goods may notice it first as consumers reprioritize. The main risk to load volumes, just above consumer spending decline, is inflationary pressure, noted by about 63% of all respondents and 65% of shippers. Just as inflation impacts consumers, it also means a rise in business costs for shippers.
